Sunday sermons of a great preacher and friend of St. Benedict Center, Fr. Dennis Smith. At the time the sermons were given, July 1988 until August 1989, Fr. Smith was serving as chaplain for the Slaves of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. A truly gifted orator Father’s deep and abiding love for Our Lord and Our Blessed Mother provided him with the zeal necessary to move the hearts of everyone in the congregation. Following the traditional liturgical sequence, the sermons have the Epistle and Gospel as their basis, but they are more pastoral than exegetical. Father had a wonderful ability to translate the scriptural text into current context so that his listeners could “take the scriptures home” so to speak and put them into action. The lessons issuing from this gifted priest’s pulpit admit no compromise, yet if they disturb consciences (which they do) they are balanced with the balm of mildness. Their content is rich in Catholic doctrine, devotion, and tradition as well as right morals. There is not one iota of false ecumenism or silly levity. The first three tapes were actually recorded earlier (in 1982) when Father gave a series of spiritual conferences during a number of “days of recollection.” Included in these earlier recordings is the story of Father's “conversion” from a schismatic Church to Catholicism and, later, to the literal belief in the doctrine of No Salvation outside the Church. There follow forty two sermons, which cover almost the entire year. Missing are the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Sundays of Epiphany, 1st Sunday of Lent, Palm Sunday, Low Sunday, and the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 8th, and 23rd Sundays after Pentecost. (42 sermons on 24 tapes)
