Title: The Faithful Departed: The Collapse of Boston’s Catholic Culture
By Philip Lawler
Author Phil Lawler drew upon his own experiences as editor of Boston’s archdiocesan weekly while expounding upon the main points of his recently published book by the same title. Lawler stressed that he wrote this book not to merely chronicle the compromises and scandals that undid the Catholic culture in Boston, but to provide the real reasons for the demise as a lesson for the future. When a diocese becomes more of an “organization,” the author surmised, than a divine institution and living Body working for the salvation of souls, it is spiritual suicide.
