Theme: Doctrinal Certitude Amid Growing Confusion

Title: The Mind of the Center, Amid the Confusion

By Br. Anthony Mary, M.I.C.M., Tert.

People often ask the religious, or those long associated with the Center, what our position is on some controversial issue.  Usually the question is posed by traditional Catholics who are sincerely seeking counsel. Whether it be sedevacantism, the validity of the Novus Ordo, attendance at the Novus Ordo, this or that alleged Marian apparition, or even home-schooling, a lot of folks want to know how Father Feeney felt about it, or what does Brother Francis think. Often Brother Francis would interrupt a person, perceiving some major imbalance, and ask: “Have you read the four Gospels?” Or, “Can you name the twelve apostles?” Brother always tried to get Catholics more interested in their Faith, in all the positive things to learn about our holy religion, than in the latest deviation there from. But he also gave answers, laid down principles, and — depending on the question — told many to go consult a priest.  Here, in this excellent presentation, Tertiary Brother Anthony Mary, discusses the Center’s tradition as a school of thought and the importance of the virtue of counsel.  That school lives on today in the spirit of Father Feeney, who well understood that the task of converting this nation is going to necessitate personal holiness, but that it is also going to require a certain degree of intellectual formation.
