By Carl Phillips
Carl Phillips’ talk warns that modernism and liberalism have deeply weakened the Catholic Church and left the laity confused and spiritually unprepared. He traces this decline to the loss of clear, authoritative teaching—contrasting the firmness of past popes with the ambiguity and compromise he sees in today’s Church leadership. Drawing from history, personal experience, and Church encyclicals, he argues that poor catechesis and cultural conformity since Vatican II have eroded belief in core doctrines, leaving many Catholics unaware of or indifferent to their moral obligations. Phillips calls for individual and communal renewal through prayer, education, restoration of Catholic culture, and visible acts of faith in daily life. He concludes by urging believers to courageously “sound a clear trumpet,” defend true doctrine, and participate in the spiritual reconquest of society for Christ and Our Lady.
