Blessed Are the Helpless: A Message of Hope for the Weak Ones of the World
What could possibly be good about being helpless? After defining helplessness as either the subjective feeling or the objective state of not being able to attain the good we desire, Sr. Marie Gabrielle, M.I.C.M., goes on to identify and address eleven common forms of helplessness: physical, financial, domestic, social, apostolic, emotional, psychological, intellectual, moral, directional, and, finally, spiritual helplessness, which she calls the most universally applicable and, consequently, the most blessed of all. Drawing on examples from the lives of the saints and a beautiful array of quotes from the Slaves’ own book, Spes Nostra, Sister proves that there is truly no such thing as supernatural helplessness, for “our help is in the name of the Lord!”
