By Dr. Robert Hickson

Given on April, 22 2008 at Saint Benedict Center.

This lecture is on the importance and nature of Catholic education, particularly in what he calls "times of disorder." The speaker defines true happiness, through the lens of Aristotle and St. Thomas Aquinas, as "the exercise of the full range of human faculties, along lines of excellence." He argues that education is not merely about acquiring knowledge but about cultivating the soul, developing a faculty of deep attention, and fostering a love for truth, all oriented towards the ultimate goal of eternal life (Vita Aeterna). The lecture emphasizes the importance of a rich interior life, the ability to engage in meaningful conversation, and the integration of faith and reason. The speaker ultimately frames a Catholic education as a high adventure that prepares students to serve Christ the King with their whole being.
