By Br. Anthony Mary, M.I.C.M. Tert.
In this course on the history of devotion to the Sacred Heart Br. Anthony Mary discusses the origins of this beautiful devotion in Sacred Scripture and how the devotion has grown throughout the Church to enjoy the great prominence that it has in modern times. Particular attention is given to the life of St. Margaret Mary Alacoque and Our Lord's revelations to her. Br. Anthony discusses the special role that two religious orders, the Nuns of the Visitation and the Jesuits, played in promoting the devotion. In addition to St. Margaret Mary, other saints and holy persons considered in this course for the providential part they had in either laying the groundwork for the revelations or in making them more known once they had occurred include: St. John Eudes, St. Francis de Sales, St. Jane Frances de Chantal, St. Claude de la Colombiere, and Fr. Jean Croiset, SJ.
