Theme: Looking Toward a Catholic America
Title: How the Constitution Was Stolen
In this talk, Joe Sobran argues that the original principles of the U.S. Constitution have been progressively eroded and ultimately destroyed throughout American history, starting with the Civil War. He presents Abraham Lincoln not as a savior of the Union, but as a tragic figure who, through his actions, fundamentally altered the nature of the American republic from a confederation of sovereign states to a consolidated national government. Joe contends that Lincoln's policies, including the suspension of the creation of West Virginia, were unconstitutional and set a dangerous precedent for the expansion of federal power. He also delves into Lincoln's personal views on race and colonization, suggesting a more complex and less heroic figure than is commonly portrayed. The talk concludes with a lament for the loss of the principle of states' rights, which Sobran sees as a vital defense against federal tyranny.
