Title: Saint John Eudes and the Immaculate Heart
Br. John reflects on the life and mission of St. John Eudes, who dedicated himself to igniting the fire of divine love in the hearts of believers and non-believers alike. St. John Eudes, born in 1601, devoted his life to spreading devotion to the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, conducting over 100 missions primarily in Normandy. Br. John provides a historical context of the Church in France during Eudes' time, highlighting the spiritual devastation caused by the rise of Calvinism, which left many Catholics with a superstitious and ignorant faith. He describes the deplorable conditions of the clergy and laity, where churches were profaned and the sanctity of worship was compromised by worldly distractions.Br. John emphasizes St. John Eudes' urgent call for renewal in the Church, as he lamented the lack of faith and reverence among the people, concluding with a poignant prayer for divine judgment on a faithless world.
